Texas Golf Collective Launches New NIL Program, National Chamionship Golf Foundation, To Support University of Texas at Austin Golf Student-Athletes
New Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) collective nonprofit will support men’s and women’s golf programs
AUSTIN, Texas (September 20, 2022) -- The Texas Golf Collective announced today the creation of the National Championship Golf Foundation (NCGF), designed to support both the men’s and women’s golf programs at the University of Texas at Austin. The collective, chartered and registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, strives to raise sufficient funds from donors to offer Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) activities for University of Texas at Austin golfers.
Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), established in July 2021, refers to a college athlete’s ability to profit off themselves through publicity, sponsorship, social media, in-person appearances and more. NCGF is designed to offer NIL opportunities to both men’s and women’s golf teams. Unaffiliated with the University of Texas, the goals of the NCGF are to supplement Texas Golf student athlete’s collegiate costs and to maintain the tradition of excellence at UT Golf. The NCGF will develop and maintain a website that includes funding progress, charitable player activities, player and team performances, scheduling of team activities and more.
“The NCGF is an exciting moment for the athletes in the men’s and women’s golf program,” said National Championship Golf Foundation board member Nick Shuley. “Thanks to the generosity of donors, this setup ensures access to participation for anyone interested. We’re excited to see the NCGF continue to grow and provide opportunities for golfers at UT as the program gains momentum.”
Spearheaded by Shuley, who also serves as CEO of the Clark Field Collective, the committee will work with student-athletes (and agents where applicable) to provide a breakdown of distributed funds, tax-deductible receipts to donors and tax returns for the nonprofit. Student-athletes will be compensated following the completion of assigned services, including exhibitions, clinics and lessons. The NCGF committee is composed of a mix of former UT golfers and UT Golf Club partners who are familiar with the program and can provide vital insights to the future of the NCGF while advocating for players themselves.
Future plans for the NCGF include the creation of a subcommittee established to foster charitable work for the student-athletes within the local golf community. Every new golf scholarship-athlete shall receive a base minimum established by the committee, with the goal to fully fund scholarships down the line.
